Mummy MOT

Welcome to Mega Mummy-Look Week! As we wave goodbye to long days and light mornings, we’re going to distract ourselves from potential gloominess by immersing ourselves in the new season and picking out our favourite mummy-friendly looks. But before the wardrobe edit starts, one must prepare one’s foundations…

Let me explain. I inadvertently seem to have booked about a zillion appointments for myself recently. From doctor to dentist to optician, it’s like I subconsciously knew I needed a total overhaul. Maybe it’s the end of the summer and that ‘start of the new term’ feeling, but it’s like I’ve given myself an unintentional Mummy MOT and it’s really made me feel a bit more ‘together’.

I finally got myself to the doctor about a niggle I’d been moaning about for months. I booked an overdue appointment with the dentist and the same again with my optician for an eye test and contact lens check. Bod, teeth and eyes sorted, I even updated my old specs for a swanky new geek-chic pair from Gok Wan’s range.

Next up was a trim and root touch-up, followed by a pedicure and manicure. My feet were so dry from summer sandal-wearing, and my nails and cuticles are pretty much neglected these days. Somehow, a manicure just makes you feel ‘finished’, whatever you’re wearing, and I opted for Shellac, which was recommended by the lovely Alison from the fabulous Not Another Mummy Blog?. Shellac is super-strong and lasts without chipping for at least two weeks, so it’s a mummy essential.

And that’s me sorted! I fully recommend giving yourself your very own Mummy MOT. It’s a very satisfying way to start afresh. New-season top-to-toe overhaul complete, I’m now looking forward to checking out autumn/winter’s new looks. Join me this week for some shopping inspiration: we’re talking trouser shapes, new trends, capsule mummy wardrobes and your new colour palette. Don’t miss it!
